According to a report launched by ActionAid Sierra Leone, only 38% of qualified health workers in Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) receive salaries from the government.

The report which was launched on the 28^th July 2023 titled “IMF wage bill ceiling and the Sierra Leonean’s right to adequate frontline workers” stated the findings  were  in selected districts, explaining that whilst 38% receive salaries from government, the remaining 62% are either on-the-job as trainees or volunteers.

Lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, representing Alpha Sheriff, in the ongoing preliminary investigation into illegal possession of small arms, has argued that the police did not exhibit a bullet in court. He did this as he cross-examined police exhibit clerk, detective sergeant Sorie Ibrahim Kamara who was tendering exhibits in connection with the case.

As rift emerges over the removal of the Chief Imam of Kpanga Chiefdom, the Pujehun District Security Committee (DISEC) has warned the Sheriff Family to put their house in order before appointing a new one.

The warning letter addressed to the family dated 2^nd August 2023, emanated from an emergency meeting held the same day over the controversial removal of Chief Imam, Alhaji Gassimu Sheriff, and the appointment of Shiek Sulaiman Mohamed Sheriff by the Sheriff Family Union.

An International Medical Organization operating in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone, Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) has held its first Academy Graduation for the first group of 29 Community Health Officers (CHOs).

The HealthCare Graduation Ceremony which brought together Senior Clinical Officers and Medical Personnel from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation among others was held at the MSF training Centre, Hangha in Kenema District on the 27th of July, 2023.

The Sierra Leone Government has deployed 110 new doctors across the country, which has had a paucity of medics especially in the provinces. Fifty of them were sent to the countryside and the remaining 50 in and around Freetown.

Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby said the number of doctors – who will be doing their houseman-ship for about two years – represented a 20 per cent increase in the current number of doctors in public service.
