Gender Equality is a prerequisite for human rights – Westminster rep

The Country Director of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy Rev.Alusine Diamond-Suma has said that gender equality is a prerequisite for human rights, democracy, and social justice, adding that it is beneficial to society.

Suma was speaking at a training held on the 14th June 2023 for members of Sierra Leone Press Gallery (SLPPG) on gender-sensitive reporting. He stated that human rights statutes ban all forms of discrimination on the grounds of gender. 

NDMA launches new mobile app

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and its partners have launched a Terminology Application to aid the public understand disaster-related terms.

The Director of Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness at NDMA, Thomas Lebbie told Politico that the App was created to inform citizens on things that they ought to do and not do.

He stated the information in the App would help citizens to be more informed on what to do and how to protect themselves when a disaster occurs.

SLPP reaffirms trust in elections body

The Secretary-General of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Umaru Napoleon Koroma says their party remains confident that the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) will hold credible elections next week.

Sierra Leone scores 74% on ICAO assessment

The Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) has during its 2023 assessment of the continuous monitoring approach, certified Sierra Leone’s Civil Aviation, after successfully passing the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Audit with a score of 74.22%, above the 60% Abuja declaration threshold.

This is from the 18% of the 2014 ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) that assessed the country’s progress made in the 2006 USOAP.

USL partners with Broad Institutes to train Medical Students
