SLRTC becomes Transport Regulator

As part of the implementation of the Sierra Leone Integrated and Resilient Urban Mobility Project (SLIRUMP), the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) has been transformed from a Public Transport Operator to a Public Transport Regulator.

The transformation was confirmed after President Julius Maada Bio gave his assent to the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority Act 2023 into law.

EPA calls for plastic control in Sierra Leone

In order to control the negative impact of plastics on the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called for a halt to their dumping in drainages and other public places.

EPA made this call together with its partners during an event to commemorate World Environment Day in Kenema on the 5th of June 2023.

Love story ends in tragedy – witness testifies in court

The Third Prosecution Witness (PW3), Martha Thoronka, in an ongoing case of grievous bodily harm with intent, has testified that her boyfriend victim, Mohamed Tarawalie’s foot got fractured when he visited her own residence.

The witness narrated before Justice Adrian Fisher at High Court No.1 in Freetown on Wednesday 7th June 2023 that it all started after the victim proposed love to her at a local festival commonly called “Tangains” held at the Sierra Leone National Stadium on the night of 23rd December 2021.

I met him dead when I brought the food – Witness testifies

The fourth Prosecution Witness (PW4), Cornelia Tucker who said she is the girlfriend of the slain teacher, Gillis Edwin Ola Johnson, has testified at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 that she met the deceased dead when she brought his food.

Also a neighbor of the deceased, Tucker testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba on Thursday 8th June 2023 that she last saw the deceased at around 11 in the morning hours of Saturday when he gave her money to prepare his food.

Sierra Leone journalists want free tertiary education for female members

One of the requests by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is for the next government to provide free tertiary education for female journalists in Sierra Leone.

The request was made in their Media Manifesto titled ‘The Media We Want To See’ which was launched on the 5th June 2023. The manifesto stated that the “Government should work with SLAJ to provide free tertiary education for female journalists”.
