NDMA organizes emergency response symposium

Increased child trafficking in northern Sierra Leone

The latest report from the African Programming & Research Initiative to End Slavery (APRIES) at the University of Georgia's Center on Human Trafficking Research & Outreach (CenHTRO) has revealed an increase in child trafficking in the border district of Kambia in the North Western region of Sierra Leone.

The report says an estimated 34% of children aged 5 to 17 in Sierra Leone’s border District have experienced child trafficking and 46,794 children (40.06%)  have experienced child labour.

Sierra Leone to recruit additional 2,800 teachers

Government is to recruit 2,800 (Two Thousand, Eight Hundred) Teachers nationwide after it was revealed that the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) is to submit a list of 680 teachers  due for retirement this year.

The Executive Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Sorie Ibrahim Turay on the 20th July 2023 made the disclosure in an interview with Politico.

In order to fulfill the Legal framework of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) Mohamed Konneh has presented the 2022 Annual Report and Certificate of the Presidential Election to President Julius Maada Bio. The disabled in Sierra Leone wants Deputy Social Welfare minister position

Persons with Disability (PWDs) have said they want one of them to be appointed deputy minister of social welfare.

Speaking in an interview after a press conference held by Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI) on the 20th July 2023, Acting President of the Union Salieu Turay said “It is our hope that the president kept that position for a qualified person with disability. So we are calling on His Excellency the President to think it necessary to give the position to a person with a disability”.
