WADEMOS calls for peace in Sierra Leone

The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network (WADEMOS) has called on the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL) and all stakeholders to act in a manner that will uphold the peace and stability of the country, in order to enhance democracy in the West African sub-region.

Bio leads Sierra Leone provisional results

An anxiously waiting voter population has been given an update on the number of votes counted so far in the June 24 Presidential election, after the Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Mohamed K. Konneh announced the first set of provisional results which puts the incumbent President Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in the lead.

ECSL reports violence against its staff and property

The Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone has in its situational update reported incidents of violence against its staff and properties in the electioneering process across the country.

A report read out by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh at the Freetown International Conference Centre on Sunday 25th June 2023, indicated that in Bombali district, elections Coordinator, Abdulai Jalloh and was beaten along Magburaka Road in Makeni City.

Sierra Leone polling day: 4 centres attacked in Eastern Freetown

The Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, has spoken of attacks on their staff and voting materials at four polling centres in Eastern Freetown on voting day.

He updated journalists on the happenings at a press briefing held at the  Freetown International Conference Centre on Saturday 24th June 2023, explaining how polling centre with code 16140, Amaria School at Mountain Cut,  the staff were attacked, and voter register destroyed.

Delays frustrated voters in Sierra Leone elections – Observer report

The preliminary report by the Group of Seven (g7+) Election Observer Mission(EOM) to Sierra Leone’s 2023 multitier elections has indicated that all 25 polling centres they visited did not open on time and that there were delays that caused frustration among voters.

The report also noted that the delays were caused by late arrival of voting materials.

Polls close in Sierra Leone after a peaceful day of voting

Polls have closed in Sierra Leone after more than 3 million registered voters today went to the polls to vote for president, parliament and local councils in much anticipated elections.

13 people were running for the presidency.
