Nationwide marches for peaceful elections

Citizens from all walks of life in all the 16 district headquarters towns and cities of Sierra Leone, simultaneously held  peace marches to diffuse any potential tension, ahead of the 24th June General Elections in the country.

Dubbed “I Stand for Peace March”, the events organised by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) on Saturday 29th June, saw leaders of diverse groups make their commitments to transmit peace messages to their various communities.

Koinadugu has highest malaria prevalence in Sierra Leone – Dep. Health minister

The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Princess Dugba, says Koinadugu District has the highest malaria prevalence of 35.1% among children between the age of 6 months to 59 months.

Ms Dugba was quoting the 2021 Sierra Leone Malaria Indicator Survey (SMIS) report, which placed Western Area Urban District as the lowest with 7.5%.

She said this at her keynote address at the Commemoration of the 16th World Malaria Day held at the Wilberforce Barracks Hockey Pitch in Freetown on Tuesday 25th April 2023.

Sierra Leone bans corporal punishment in schools

Following heavy persuasion from some members of Parliament and the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, the Acting Speaker of Parliament Segepoh Solomon Thomas has legally passed into law the ban on corporal punishment in schools but was quick to state that if it does not work, it will be amended.

Le 38 Billion for Marampa chiefdom

Marampa and Maforki Chiefdoms in Port Loko District, North-Western region of Sierra Leone last weekend received the sum of 38 Billion Leones as payment for the Community Development Agreement Fund (CDA) by Marampa Mines Limited.

The two Chiefdoms are the operational sites for the Marampa Mines Limited a company that is jointly owned by Gerald Group and the Government of Sierra Leone.

NP-SL encourages drivers to embrace safety

In order to commemorate World Day for Safety and Health at Work, officials of NP-SL Limited, the largest petroleum importer in the country have urged drivers to embrace safety measures whilst on and off duty.

The commemoration was held at the NP Terminal, Kissy/Shell depot on the 28th of April 2023.

 Health and Safety Compliance Officer of NP-SL, Saffea Gbamanja stated that they want to ensure all workers are safe in their working environment and free from acquiring diseases.

Audit Service engages stakeholders in Local Council Auditing

Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has completed an engagement with stakeholders in relation to Local Council Auditing.

The exercise was held at the Multi-purpose building Hanga Road in Kenema on the 25th of April 2023.  

In his statement, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of ASSL, Martin Sandi said the engagement was to bring the audit office closer to the people so that they will be able to know its work at various levels.
