UN commends Sierra Leone’s peace

Ahead of the country’s General Elections slated for 24th June this year and its 62nd independence anniversary, the Interim United Nations Resident Coordinator to Sierra Leone Nadia Rasheed has commended the peaceful nature of the country since it last peace talks after the brutal civil war.

Over 75% of victims of trafficking in West Africa are children

President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission Dr. Omar Alieu Touray has said that over 75% of victims of human trafficking in West Africa are children.

Whilst presenting his speech at the Regional Conference of ECOWAS states on Ending Human Trafficking 2023 which was hosted in Sierra Leone at the International Conference Centre, Bintumani Hotel, Freetown, Touray explained that recent study has proven that children are trafficked for the purpose of forced labour.

Parliament approves duty, tax waiver law

In an effort to streamline and provide a legal and regulatory framework to guide the award of duty and tax exemptions, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has enacted the Tax and Duty Exemption Act 2023.

The Act has consolidated the legal framework for regulating and administering exemptions in Sierra Leone.

The unbelievable stats so far of Bo Rangers

The defending champions of the Sierra Leone Premier League, Bo Rangers, seem to be on the cusp of history.  

With 20 matches played, they have not lost a single match, and have won 14, scored 27 goals and conceded only eight, with 13 clean sheets. Their players have won 12 Man of The Match awards.

If they manage to avoid defeat in their remaining 14 matches of the season, they will be one of very few clubs – and the first since EE Lions in 2019 – to go a whole season unbeaten.

Fear of violence heightens ahead of Sierra Leone polls – says new report

A nation -wide poll published by Sierra Poll has indicated increased fear of violence in the upcoming elections slated for June 24th, 2023 by 36% percentage points following the recent killing of Assistant Superintendent of Police Matthew Gbanya in Makeni.

The fear in the minds of Sierra Leoneans increased from 20% in February of 2023 to 56% in April 2023 according to the report which was published on the 20th of April, 2023.
