Collapsed buildings: Over 10 dead, many injured

Over 10 people are reported to have died with many injured amidst the recent spate of collapsed buildings within the Western Urban Area, according to an update read by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah during the  government’s weekly press briefing on 20th August, 2024.

Miner testifies in missing diamond case

Sahr Moywa, a miner who is said to have found a two hundred and sixty-four (264) carats diamond that is now allegedly missing, has testified before a magistrate court in Freetown about how he found the diamond.

Suspected MPox case in Sierra Leone proves negative

The recent suspected case of the Monkeypox virus dubbed Mpox from a 32-year-old-man in Kono district, eastern Sierra Leone according to the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, has been tested negative of the viral disease which was recently declared by the Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) as an African Health emergency.

YSC brawl case continues

State prosecutors have brought in their eighth witness, Detective Sergeant Mohamed Kamara in connection with a riotous conduct case against Ali Jaffal and six other Lebanese nationals.

Sergeant Kamara told the court that together with another colleague he obtained a statement from the first accused, Ali Jaffal. He said on April 5, 2024, he was on duty at the Lumley police station at 23:00 hours when he received information about chaos at Young Sportsmen Club (YSC), at Wilkinson road.

Water Resources ministry completes master plan

Standards Bureau to clamp down on stores over fake iron rods

 Deputy Director, Sierra Leone Standards Bureau, Jogor Bah has explained at the weekly government press conference that they are working on curbing the importation of poor quality iron rods in the country amidst the spate of buildings collapsing in the Western Area. 

 He pointed out that importers had been informed of the quality of iron rods that should be imported, and accused some importers of indulging in reducing the length of the rods.
