Parliament demands EDSA to resolve GST with NRA

According to findings revealed in the Auditor General’s Report, Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has not been paying Good and Services Tax (GST) to the National Revenue Authority (NRA), promptinghe Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament Segepoh Solomon Thomas to rule that EDSA resolves the issue with NRA.

EDSA to refund state money

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament Segepoh Solomon Thomas has ruled that monies donated to the Freetown Golf Club totalling forty-eight thousand four hundred and fifty Leones (48,450) by Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) on the basis of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), should instead be directed to the Consolidated Fund.

Sierra Leone celebrates Education Week

The four day celebration has brought together, education stakeholders in the country, their international partners and school pupils to the activities which began on Monday, 22nd January, 2024. Sierra Leone military on eviction and demolition of encroachers on their barracks

Members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have commenced Eviction of civilians who have attained the age of 18 from all Military Barracks in the Western Area. The order was also simultaneously carried out with the Demolition of all unauthorized structures owned by civilians within military barracks in the Western Area.

The operation commenced last Saturday 20th January and is expected to be completed on the 28th January 2024.

Journalists under fire in Guinea

At least nine journalists in Guinea were arrested, after raids on their offices by the security forces in the capital Conakry on 18th January, 2024.

The raids, at the Maison de la Presse, took place during a rally organised by the Syndicat de Professionnels de la Presse de Guinea (SPPG) to protest against media restrictions.

Cocoa ranked as Sierra Leone’s 3rd highest export revenue earner

Cocoa has been ranked as the third highest export revenue earner for Sierra Leone. This development was acknowledged by the Government of Sierra Leone and the private sector, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), together with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the European Union, in a technical roundtable on the 18th of January 2024.
