Kenema DHMT commences mosquito net distribution

As part of the government’s commitment to combat the rate of malaria infection in the country, the Kenema District Health Management Team (DHMT) through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and development partners has commenced massive distribution of treated mosquito bed nets in the district.

The distribution which commenced on the 21st of February, 2024 attracted stakeholders, lactating and pregnant women, civil society groups, and other organizations working on health programmes in the District.

After conducting further laboratory analysis at the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) of Ghana on the “herbal product” Coco Samba, the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has encouraged the public to stop the consumption of these harmful products and report any individual or institution found marketing them.

Judge to rule on Ikubolaje Nicol’s bail application

Justice Adrian Fisher has promised to rule on a bail application made by a lawyer for Ikubolaje Nicole, a former bank manager of Skye Bank who is on remand accused of murdering one Sinnah Kai Kargbo a junior staff of the same bank.

Justice Fisher further ordered state prosecutors who intend to oppose the application to produce an affidavit and make it available to the defence lawyers by Friday 23rd February this year.

Health Workers’ Union elections end in controversies

The Sierra Leone Health Workers Union (SLHWU) regional executive election in Kenema ended in controversy after some members got disenfranchised.

The election conducted on the 19th of February, 2024 saw some members expressing dissatisfaction, citing stage- managing in the interest of a few members, contrary to their constitution.

800 female entrepreneurs certified

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in joint support from the World Bank and the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP, has certified 800 (Eight hundred) entrepreneurs who were trained by Madam Yokie on Arts, Crafts, Artisan work, and Entrepreneurship.

The certification ceremony took place at the Freetown City Hall Council in Freetown on 16 February this year.

Treason trial: 6th accused denies implicating Bai Mahmoud

The 6th accused in the treason trial of Abdul Koita Makalo and 11 others has denied a portion of his statement to the effect that he overheard the 8th accused person, Bai Mahmoud Bangura, telling someone that he was part of the coup plotters and that former president Ernest Bai Koroma funded the failed coup.
