ACC warns asset declaration defaulters

The Anti-Corruption Commission has warned public officials against failing to declare their assets to the commission.

In a statement from the commission, it said officials who fail to declare their assets beyond the extended date will face penalties. The initial date for the submission of the asset declaration form was March 31st, but according to the commission, a good number of public officials have defaulted against the process.

St George Foundation launches “Ose Tok” project

The humanitarian organization, St George Foundation (SGF), has launched a new project called Ose Tok, which is geared towards promoting cohesion.

The project was launched on Friday 15th May to coincide with the World Family Day celebrations.

World Family Day is an annual celebration that marks the importance of family in society. May 15th was declared as family day in 1994. Celebrations across the world have been low key this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

FOCUS 1000 donates COVID-19 sensitization materials

The health NGO FOCUS 1000 has donated materials to help aid COVID-19 sensitization in the Kenema district. The donated items include five megaphones, USB drives containing health messages adopted along religious teachings and face masks. They package was handed to the District Health Management Team.

The donation was done through the Kombra Media Network, the community engagement arm of the NGO.

JMB Women donate food to Bo

The Julius Maada Bio (JMB) Women and associates have donated assorted food items to communities in Bo. The group said the donation is to cushion the effect of the already difficult economic condition occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic which families are facing across the country.

The assorted items include rice, cooking oil and salt.

ACC indicts former Maritime Procurement Chief

The Anti-Corruption Commission has indicted a former Head of Procurement at the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, Sahr Kemokai.

Kemokai was indicted on nine counts of corruption offences; three Counts on Abuse of Office, three Counts on Abuse of Position, three Counts on Failure to Comply with Applicable Procedures and Guidelines relating to Procurement.

No pay for Sierra Leone COVID-19 workers and contractors

Over a dozen lab technicians, contact tracers and suppliers have separately and at different times reached out to Politico to complain about non-payment of their weekly allowances or pay for at least five weeks.

One of them even alleged that no test results were announced on Tuesday – when zero new infections were reported – because of a brief strike action by lab technicians.

Covid-19: Quarantined residents threaten to move out in SIerra Leone

A group of 12 people in quarantine in Bo are threatening to abandon the facility over alleged poor treatment in the hands of the District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC).

The aggrieved people who are under quarantine at the Two Stars Guesthouse in Bo city attempted to break out of the facility on Thursday. Among many concerns, they claimed that the DEOC officials had abandoned them and that their families were left stranded back home with no support for feeding.
