Student Union lead campaign against exam malpractice in Sierra Leone

The Student Union (SU) administration of Fourah Bay College (FBC) is spearheading a campaign against examination malpractice.

Officials of the Union Executive say the move is geared towards sanitizing the institution’s examination process which had been clouded with prolonged problem of cheating during exams.

SU President, Augustine Bona, embarked on a class-to-class sensitization tour in the FBC campus last week to raise awareness on the consequences of cheating during exams.

Social Workers Sierra Leone join in the fight against COVID-19

In celebration of the 2020 World Social Work Day (WSWD), Social Workers Sierra Leone (SWSL), in collaboration with the Social Work Society of Fourah Bay College, this week marched along major streets of Freetown to raise awareness about the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The street parade, which was held on Tuesday 17th March, was meant to compliment the Government of Sierra Leone’s effort to prevent the virus from entering the country.

Sierra Leone former defense minister under investigation for alleged undeclared weapon

Sierra Leone’s former Minister of Defense, Major (Rtd) Alfred Paolo Conteh, is under investigation over weapons possession, police say.

Conteh is suspected of carrying an undeclared weapon into State House, the office of the president, a police spokesman told Politico.

Assistant Superintendent Samuel Saio Conteh said the former minister was being investigated on allegations that he failed to declare his licensed weapon before entering State House.

Sierra Leone: Foreigners scramble for flights as airport lockdown deadline looms

Foreign nationals in Sierra Leone are scrambling for flight tickets ahead of a deadline to ban international air travel into and out of the country.

The ban is part of measures by the Sierra Leone government to keep the Coronavirus from reaching the country.

The Ministry of Transport and Aviation on Thursday said it had given airlines 72 hours, up to Saturday, March 21, to make the necessary arrangement and fly out their booked passengers.

Finance Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, said on Thursday that the administration was considering measures like tax break, tax deferral and other incentives for businesses. He announced the move in a press briefing on the preparedness of the country for the pandemic.

Coronavirus: Sierra Leone suspends international flights

The government of Sierra Leone has announced the suspension of all flights to the country. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation on Thursday as part of moves to curb the spread of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

The decision will come into effect on Saturday, 21st of March when the last set of scheduled flights is expected to land.

Government says it has already issued a 72-hour notice to airlines across the world about this latest move.
