Uncertainty over Hill Side Bypass road project in Sierra Leone capital

Amidst slow flow of funding, there is uncertainty over the fate of the long delayed construction of the Hill Side Bypass Road.

And the delay has raised environmental concerns, with residents lining the highway struggling to deal with the health implication of dust and constant danger of moving debris due to the construction work.

Sierra Leone better prepared for Corona than Ebola – report

A new report launched by the governance think tank, Institute for Governance Report (IGR), has shown that Sierra Leone is better placed to deal with the ongoing global outbreak of the Coronavirus compared to the Ebola outbreak five years ago.

The report titled: “Maintaining Our Zero” is a snappy study that was done by IGR in 48 hours to gauge knowledge, understand attitudes and the general sense of readiness among 500 respondents across three districts in the Sierra Leone.

President Bio imposes new anti-coronavirus measures

As the only country in the Mano River Union yet to record any case of the Coronavirus disease, Sierra Leone has taken major steps to keep the virus at bay.

On Monday President Julius Maada Bio imposed restrictions on overseas travel for government officials and banned public gatherings of more than 100 people. The move is part of a raft of new measures to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Three denied bail over shooting at Minister’s residence

Three accused persons who police alleged conspired to attack the residence of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Lahai Lawrence Leema, were denied bail on Monday.

The accused persons were making their first appearance before Magistrate Marke Ngegba of the Magistrate Court No 2 at Pademba Road.

The first accused, Ali Foster, was shot in the leg by security personnel guarding Leema’s residence on the 1st of February. Victor Emmanuel Sesay and Micheal Abass Turay are the second and third accused, respectively.

Kenema: Madingo leadership tussle settled

A leadership tussle within the Madingo community in Kenema has been settled over the weekend. President of the National Madingo Union, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, presided over a negotiation that led to the resolution of the dispute which some say was influenced by politics.

Customs get training on illicit trade

Customs Officers of the National Revenue Authority have started a three-day training on the fight against illicit trade. The training which is organized by Logistics Solution Services (LSS) and its global partners, Societe General du Survaillance (SGS), is designed to strengthen knowledge within the customs department.

LSS is a local company that has been contracted by the Government of Sierra Leone to do cargo tracking at all three ports of entry in the country – airport, sea and land borders.

Sierra Leone Labour Ministry validates employment policy

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Labor and Social Security has ended a two day validation exercise on the National Employment Policy in Freetown.

The 2015-2018 National Employment Policy, Strategy and Implementation Plan, which was launched by former President Ernest Bai Koroma, was designed to towards addressing and improving labor relations and conditions of service of workers in Sierra Leone.

The policy was designed to be validated once every three years.
