SALWACO launches social connection in eastern Sierra Leone

Joseph Munda Sandi, Managing Director of Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), has launched the Social Involving Connection in Bo and Kenema as a way of meeting the company’s mandate, which is to provide safe and pure water in the provinces.

Petroleum body to investigate reported oil discovery in Sierra Leone

The Petroleum Directorate has said it is investigating reports of a possible discovery of oil in Blama Town, Kenema District.

Reports of discovery of oil in an abandoned well in the area has been widely circulated on social media about a week ago.

In a press statement, the Directorate said initial findings showed that the substance lacked the characteristics of crude oil.

FBC admin denies tuition fee increase

The administration of Fourah Bay College (FBC) has denied allegations that it has increased tuition fees. In a press statement on Monday, the college authorities said increase in payment was done just on extra charges and not the tuition fees.

The statement comes following a protest staged by students last week Thursday, in which they also complained the delay in reopening of the student hostels, classroom shortage and transportation constraints.

Sierra Leone Police foil Njala University protest

A planned protest by students of Njala University Bo campus was foiled by the Sierra Leone Police who stormed the two locations of the campus in the city on Tuesday.

The police who said they were acting on intelligence, prevented the students from gathering.

Organizers of the Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award have announced the conclusion of nomination process, one month ahead of the awards ceremony.

The Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award is an initiative of twenty-two youth and women-led organizations, led by the Kids Advocacy Network (KAN), to spotlight and recognize the important role women play towards national development in Sierra Leone. It is also designed to honor and celebrate these women and institutions that are contributing towards nation building.
