In a bid to improve service delivery in water supply at rural communities, World Hope International (WHI) with support from Engineers without Borders from Denmark has conducted four days of intensive capacity training for pump technicians and solar power water technicians.

The training which was meant for 16 Chiefdoms in Kenema District took place at the Eastern Technical University (ETU) on the 30th of January, 2024.

Freetown has lost 26% of the 18,000 hectares (180 square kilometres) of the Western Area peninsula national park which provides clean water to the city’s residents.

According to a UN World Food Programme report released last week, the rest of the forest is also critically under threat due to human activities such as land grabbing, charcoal burning, quarrying and marijuana cultivation.

Responding to ‘fake news’ about the shutting down of the Karpowership in Sierra Leone, the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has dispelled rumours about the closing of Karpowership.

 Bah made this clarification in a government’s weekly press briefing on Tuesday 30^th January this year.

"The news that the Karpowership is coming to shut down is not true," Bah emphasised.

The Director-General of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and team are currently on a nationwide raid for illegal abstraction of electricity.

The Director General Dr. Joe-Lahai Sormana and his team during the last weekend conducted raids in Bo and Kenema in the South Eastern regions and reportedly discovered Massive Electricity theft at big business places such as hotels, Entertainment centres, welding shops, and minimarts.

As a means to ensure gender parity, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Col.Rtd Alhaji Fanday Turay says fifty female drivers have been trained to operate the new buses that began test runs in Freetown yesterday.

Turay made this disclosure at the official launch of the new Public Transport Reform under which the buses will operate, at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building in Freetown on the 29^th of January this year.
