Sierra Leone medical school inaugurates new student gov’t

The College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) finally inaugurated its new Student Representative Council last month, nine months after its members were elected.

The Council which serves as intermediary between the students and the administration, comprises 40 members, headed by a president, and it is elected every year.

School boy seeks help for emergency surgery in southern Sierra Leone

The family of a 15-year old school boy, Desmond Kalokoh, who lives in Bo, is soliciting support from well-wishers and humanitarian organizations to facility an emergency surgery for what doctors say is a life threatening ailment.

Kalokoh, who attends the Bo Commercial Junior Secondary School, has been battling the sickness that resulted from a boil under his armpit for the last three years.

According to his brother-in-law, whom the young boy lives with, Ibrahim Farmah, it all started when the boil burst.

kENEMA Mayor threatens to close city field

The Mayor of Kenema has threatened to close the Kenema city field if football authorities do not fix the artificial turf that is meant for the pitch.

Thomas Baio’s threat came out of a prolong frustration over whose responsibility it was to finally fix the artificial turf on the Kenema City playing field. Kenema’s artificial turf pitch is part of a FIFA project that has stalled.

Independent MP Shiaka Sama builds constituency office

The independent Member of Parliament for Constituency 104 in Pujehun District, Shiaka Musa Sama, has completed the construction of a building meant for his constituents.

Hon. Sama, whose constituency consists of the entirety of the Malen Chiefdom and two other sections in neighboring Sowa Chiefdom, said he built the Constituency Office to serve as a platform for interaction between himself and his constituents.

Row over disbursement of presidential tour funds

The Independent Member of Parliament for Constituency 104 in the southern Pujehun District, Shiaka Musa Sama, has accused members of the “Presidential Visiting Coordinating Committee” in the district of unfair disbursement of State funds relating to the recent visit of President Julius Maada Bio.

Ahead of the visit by the president as part of his ‘Thank You Visit,’ since his election as president, the Ministry of Finance allocated about Le300 million, which was managed by the Presidential Visiting Coordinating Committee.
