Controversy rocks WIMSAL election outcome

The 2019 elections for the Presidency of the Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has left the association in turmoil.

The losing candidate, Mariama Kai Fornah, has petitioned the result that declared her opponent, Femi Jarett Coker as President of the association.

Campaign Manager for Fornah’s presidential campaign, Aminata Massaquoi, said her camp was not satisfied with the outcome of the election, citing a “fraudulent” voter list as one of the many irregularities that they believed affected the outcome.

Sierra Leone: Mining company presents new school block to villagers

Supreme Minerals Corporation (SL) Limited (SMC), a company prospecting for gold in Sierra Leone, has handed over a three-classroom block to villagers in Lablama, Valunia Chiefdom in the southern district of Bo, where it intends to do the mining.

The company said the school is part of their many contributions to the community as they seek to secure a license to mine there.

2018 Economic Bulletin launched

The Minister of Finance, Jacob Jusu Saffa, has on Friday 6th December launched the 2018 Economic Bulletin at the Ministry’s conference hall in Freetown.

Ministry of Finance to establish resource center at Fourah Bay College

The Ministry of Finance has signed a cooperation agreement with the Economic Department of Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, for the establishment of a resource center for the use of students.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry’s Conference room in Freetown on December 6.

According to Finance Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, the collaboration is aimed at building the capacity of students and improve on the research capacity of the department and the ministry.

Sierra Leone's amended anti-corruption law comes into force

Sierra Leone’s amended Anti-Corruption Act of 2019 has come into effect after President Julius Maada Bio appended his signature to it, according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Commission, in a statement on Wednesday, said President Bio signed the document on Tuesday December 3rd.
