New Vocational Centre for wives of Sierra Leone

President Julius Maada Bio on Monday inaugurated a newly constructed technical and vocational training center for wives of police personnel at the Kingtom Police Barracks.

The facility, which also has an administrative building, is the first of its kind ever and is designed to ensure wives of police personnel are self-reliant.

Sierra Leone parliament commits new NaCSA bill for major review

The House of Parliament has committed the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) Act of 2019 to the Legislative and the NaCSA Committees. The bill which was presented to Parliament on Tuesday seeks to permanently establish NaCSA as a government agency.

Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, on Friday launched his government’s digital strategy with an announcement of the introduction of the DNA sequencing technology in the country.

He said the technology would help solve social problems like paternity disputes, warning men in the habit of impregnating women and girls only to abandon them to beware of the development.

FBC gets a new students’ union president

The long awaited students’ union election at Fourah Bay College has finally been conducted with a law student emerging as President for the first time.

Augustine Bona, a second year student at Sierra Leone's first institution of higher learning, emerged the winner on Thursday 31 October in a poll that was characterised by controversy. All but one of the three candidates withdrew from the contest hours before voting, citing irregularities in the conduct of the poll.

Access to information regulations validated in Sierra Leone

The Chairman of the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC), Dr. Ibrahim Seaga Shaw says the validation of his commission’s regulations represents a significant milestone in the development aspirations of Sierra Leone because of the involvement of “important sectors of sectors in deciding the rules that are critical to the furtherance of transparency and accountability.”
