ACC inaugurates North-west regional office

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone on Thursday inaugurated a new office to serve the northwestern region of the country.

The office situated in Port Loko Town, the headquarters of the North-Western Region, is a major deliverable of the current leadership of the Commission.

Kenema Red Cross condemns nationwide strike call

The Sierra Leone Red Cross Kenema Branch has distanced itself from calls for a nationwide strike over an ongoing dispute between the national leadership and the Western Area branch.

Chairman of the volunteers in Kenema, Momoh Vandi, said their branch doesn’t support the Western Area branch in their decision because they thought the strike was designed to sabotage the image of the organization.

Collegiate demands justice for dead pupil

Pupils of the Collegiate Secondary School have called on the government to ensure justice for the killing of their colleague. Mohamed Foday Sesay, 18 was reportedly stabbed to death by Sylvester Foday Bangura, 16 on the 4th October this year.

According to the autopsy report of the incident the stabbing led to excessive bleeding in the right lung, which eventually caused the death of the victim. Mohamed has been buried since last week

NACE report calls for clear strategy on Sierra Leone's extractives

The National Coalition on Extractives (NACE) has in a report launched on Tuesday urged the government of Sierra Leone to develop a clear strategic document on mining and extractives in Sierra Leone.

The report, titled ‘Sierra Leone Minerals Sector; New Directions towards a new destination, was authored by the development expert Herbert McLeod and funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa.

US commits to support Sierra Leone Gola Forest

The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone Maria Briwah has said they are committed to supporting the work of the Gola Forest in Sierra Leone. Madam Briwah was speaking to Gola Forests officials in Kenema during a visit last week.

“US government will continue to support Sierra Leone on sustainable conservation and environmental programs,” she said.

Sierra Leone prisons to stage first beauty pageant

The Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Freetown has slated November 15 as date for the first ever beauty pageant and talent exhibition show for women serving jail terms. The Gender and Equal Opportunity Unit at the Female Correctional Service, in partnership with SaloneJamboree, will stage the show at the grounds of the Female Correctional Centre at New England.
