Stakeholders meet to evaluate Sierra Leone's extractives draft bill

Officials of the Sierra Leone Extractive Industries Transparency Initiatives (SLEITI) together with members of the Multi-Stakeholders Group (MSG) have deliberated in Freetown on a draft Natural Resources Transparency Bill that is geared towards transforming the extractives sector and making it more accountable to the people of this country.

The aim of the bill is to prepare a regime that will enhance disclosures from natural resources companies and revenue management institutions for the preparation of Reports by SLEITI.

Bike rider remanded for murder

A man identified as a bike rider and famer in Bo district has appeared before a magistrate court in Freetown for allegedly killing one Osman Jalloh at Bass Street, Brookfields in Freetown.

26-year-old Ibrahim Kamara appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Monday 6th November 2023, where the two counts of conspiracy and murder were read out to him.

The accused who did not have a lawyer was not asked to make a plea.

Six months for wounding with intent

Justice Monfred Sesay has sentenced a convict, Abu Bakarr Kamara to Six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to wounding Edward Musa.

 37-year-old Kamara who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence admitted to the crime after his Legal Aid Board Lawyer, Randy Salieu Bangura informed the court that his client wished to change his plea.

Sierra Leone, South Africa waive visas for their diplomatic and service passport holders

As a means to strengthen bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and South Africa, both African nations have agreed on waiving visas for holders of Diplomatic and Service passports from the two countries, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The agreement was made during a courtesy visit by the South African High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Grace Jeanet Mason to the Foreign Affairs Minister of Sierra Leone, Timothy Musa Kabba in Freetown on 2nd November 2023.

Guinea recaptures ex-junta leader freed after a prison break

Former Guinean Junta Leader Captain Dadis Camara and several of his compatriots have been recaptured after they were freed from a Prison in the capital Conakry early Saturday morning amidst a barrage of gunfire, a reliable source in the city told Politico.

The source said Camara and one other prisoner were later cornered during which there was a heavy exchange of gunfire and  Camara and the other  eventually got captured.

British High Commissioner, ARIA partner to support SMEs in Sierra Leone

The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Lisa Jane Chesney, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a British-led International Investment Fund, Africa Resilience Investment Accelerator (ARIA) that is to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

The event at the residence of the British High Commissioner, on Thursday 2nd November, 2023 attracted entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone and senior Government officials including the Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh.
