Sierra Leone flood victim cries for help

A month since the August 2nd flooding that wreaked havoc in part of Freetown, one of the victims remain in a hospital bed in need of urgent medical attention.

Ramatu Kamara, 22, was hit by a falling fence which left her severely injured. Doctors at the Connaught hospital, where she has been admitted, said she can only survive her condition with a surgery overseas and the nearest facility is in Ghana.

Sierra Leone Gov’t ‘concerned’ over SA xenophobic attacks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nabeela Tunis has said government is concerned about the ongoing persecution of African immigrants in South Africa.

The persecution which started early this week has already claimed five lives and displaced hundreds of foreign nationals.

Speaking to Politico in a telephone interview, Tunis said: “We are concerned as a government about the situation in South Africa.”

Sierra Leone’s former president to attend peace meeting in Accra

Former President Ernest Bai Koroma is in Ghana to attend a meeting on peace and security in Africa.

Koroma will be among other former leaders of the continent at the maiden edition of the Kofi Annan Peace and Security (KAPS) Forum, organized by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC), in collaboration with the Federal Government of Germany and the Government of Norway.

The forum is being convened on the theme: “Peace Operations in the Context of Violent Extremism in Africa.”

Chinese envoy arrives in Sierra Leone today

A senior Chinese government official is expected to arrive in Freetown on Thursday as special guest of the Sierra Leone government.

Yang Jiechi, who will be here from September 5 to 6, will be received at the Lungi International airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Nabeela Tunis, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication late Wednesday.

The Manager of the National Stadium, Paul Damullay has said they have completed some major renovations at the Siaka Steven Stadium in preparation for the return leg of Leone Stars Vs Lone Star.

Sierra Leone are set to host their West African counterpart in Freetown on Sunday, 8th September, 2019 as part of the preliminary for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Sierra Leone opens child abuse case against former children's affairs minister

The State Counsel at the Commissions of Inquiry have started a case regarding alleged ‘physical abuse’ of children by the former Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr Sylvia Blyden. The case is an ‘incomplete’ police investigation since 2017.

Reading the summary of the case against Ms Blyden, State Counsel, Robert Kowa said Blyden should answer to a case against her regarding accusations that she hired thugs to beat members of the Children’s Forum Network.
