MP wants MDAs debt deducted from budget

Whip from the Government Bench, Ibrahim Tawa Conteh says arrears and debts that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) owe certain institutions such as Guma Valley, Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and Audit Service should be deducted from their budget.

Conteh who is a Committee Chairman for one of the sub-appropriation committees in parliament said he has observed that most of the MDAs that appeared before his committee have debts and arrears to pay these institutions.

The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs through the Decentralization Secretariat and support from UNDP has on the 12th December, 2023 conducted a day’s popularization of the newly reviewed decentralization policy in Kenema.

In his statement, the Director of Decentralization Secretariat, Alex Bonapha Esq. said reviewing of the policy got underway in 2022 for the running of the local councils based on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendation.

The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has read out the names of Sierra Leone Armed Forces officers whom he said were the planners of the November 26th attempted coup.

Bah made this statement at the government’s weekly press briefing on 5th December 2023, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conference room, Tower Hill, Freetown.

After coup attempt, Sierra Leone’s First Lady calls for unity

In her first official outing after the November 26th, 2023 ‘attempted coup’, Sierra Leone’s First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has urged Sierra Leoneans to prioritize the country and stay united.

“Please let us put our nation first; let us understand that there is no other Sierra Leone but this one” the First Lady said. She made this statement at a knowledge-sharing event organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on the 5th of December 2023.
