P’ment okays Bo solar project

Parliament has ratified a 5-megawatt solar electrification project agreement for Bo and Kenema in the southeast of the country.
The project which is estimated at $12million would be undertaken by a private Sierra Leonean owned company and it’s expected to be completed in May 2016. The project agreement, which was tabled in parliament by the Minister of Energy, when implemented would provide electricity for Bo and Kenema that have been without electricity for very long time.
PROWA blames fire accident on EDSA

A female vocational training institute in Freetown says the country’s electricity supplying company is responsible for a fire accident on Monday, which destroyed its building and many other things.
The Progressive Women’s Association (PROWA) claims the fire outbreak at its OAU Drive building emanated from unstable power supply from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
Foreign minister globe-trots for AfDB top job

Sierra Leone’s foreign minister, Dr Samoura Kamara was in Zambia and Kenya yesterday drumming up support to become President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
He will later this week leave for Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom before returning home on 17th May.
The election itself will happen at the 50 Annual Meeting of the Bank taking place in Abidjan in the week of 25-29 May.
As Shandong takes over AML Chinese rules out working with ‘bad’ suppliers

Shandong Iron and Steel Group (SISG) Limited has promised to pay all outstanding debts accrued by the defunct African Minerals Limited (AML). But the Chinese company, which specializes in the manufacturing of steel and took over the Tonkolili Iron Ore project recently, has sent its first strong warning yet that it will no longer be business as usual for aggrieved creditors who use the country`s legal system to demand payment of their debts.
