Wellington Community Unites

After winning the 2013 COFA Inter-Community league title, Wellington Community was challenged with the issue of sharing the winning bonus of twenty-five million Leones.

Abdul Rashid Conteh, Chairman of Wellington Sports Association (WSA), said that few members at that time wanted the money shared whilst others were opposed to it and were of the opinion that the money should be kept for developmental purposes in the association’s account.

“We decided finally as an executive to deposit the money into the account,” Conteh said.

IAAF certifies Karim

The world governing body of Athletics, IAAF has certified the presidency of Abdul Karim Sesay amidst controversy of a botched congress last December.

Sesay confirmed to Politico Sports that he has received several correspondences from IAAF which clearly shows that they are recognized his new executive.

“After the chaos at the previous venue we moved to another venue were the elective congress was held and that each and every member of the SLAA was in attendance including the NOC and the Ministry of sports.

Dove Cut Community indicts COFA Executive

Dove Cut Community has expressed their disappointment over the Central One Football Association (COFA) resolved not to accept them in this year’s Community league.

According to the secretary general of Dove Cut, Unisa Kamara he said that the competition is meant for communities and not streets, citing the example of Kissy Road being included in the competition which he says is not a community.

‘’We do not rely on bribing to participate” Kamara alleged.

When questioned about the issue of bribery, Kamara replied in the affirmative that he is confident of what he said.

43 Communities prepare for Inter Community League

The Central One Football Association COFA Inter-community League has been slated for January 17.

The tournament, which began in 2001, is an annual event which attracts a large number of participation from communities within the western area. It is by far Sierra Leone`s most watched local league.

It initially started with sixteen communities were as those communities were drawn within central and western Freetown. But now teams come from as far as Waterloo and surroundings.

Scrabble, latest sporting discipline in Sierra Leone

Scrabble has been officially added to the sporting disciplines in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Sports has said.

The development comes after the National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL) officially becomes the 32nd Sporting association to register with the Sports Council of Sierra Leone last month.

At COFA non-division league…Faulty start for Defending Champion

Defending Champions of the non-division league at the Parade Ground in Central Freetown have lost to Tank FC who were eliminated in the group stage of the 2013/14 league season.

Malcolm Football Cub, who defeated four teams in the last season to emerge as champions, were beaten by 1 goal to 0 in the opening match of the 2015 league that has just commenced last week in Freetown.
