For attacking a referee, COFA may ban Susan's Bay

The chairman of the Central One Football Association, COFA, Sama Sesay has told Politico that a committee will be set up soon to investigate an incident in which supporters of Susan's Bay community physically attacked a referee during a league match at Parade Grounds. He said the committee will study the referee's match report.

Controversy rocks Leone Stars departure for Ghana

The home-based national football team, Leone Stars departs Freetown for Ghana today 19th November to take part in the West African Football Union, WAFU tournament which starts on Thursday 21st November in the Ghanaian capital amid controversy as to what money to accept and what not to.

The controversy stems from a Le 50 million donation by sports-betting company, Mercury International on the request of sports minister, Paul Kamara.

Beach, Indoor Volleyball Soon

The annual Beach and Indoor volleyball competition organised by the Western Area Volleyball Association (WAVA) starts on Thursday 21stNovember 2013.

According to Chief Organizer Mohamed Benson Bawoh, that the purpose of the competition is to encourage upcoming players in the country to showcase their talent. He said volleyball clubs in the western area are expected to participate as each club in the competition is expected to have two teams - male and female.

COFA title is our goal - Coach Ali

SWASAL unveil Awards Nominees and Judges

The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone, SWASAL unveiled nominees for this year's Sports Awards categories on Wednesday 5th November. SLAJ president Farjah Barrie said the judges decided on the shortlist after receiving nominations from journalists and members of the public over a period of one month.

Amputee Football Gala Called off

The much talked-about Amputee Football Gala scheduled for today has been called off by the sponsor, the mobile phone operator, Airtel.

Addressing a news conference at their headquarters on Wednesday 6thNovember, the company's Cooperate Affairs Manager June-Rose Johnson said they decided to call off the competition because they were unable to get other partners to support the event.

SWASAL Launches Awards Today

The Sports Writers’ Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) will today launch their second annual National Awards programme at the headquarters of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists in Freetown.

SWASAL president, Mohamed Fajah Barrie told Politico that this year's event would take place on the 6th December but that the awards categories would be unveiled and the general public informed on how to vote for their favorite sports personalities.
