With two crucial away fixtures looming, the Chairman of Mighty Blackpool Football Club has taken the unusual step of going on social media to urge their fans, elders, and patrons to urgently provide financial assistance for the club to be able to meet the rising cost of participating in the on-going Sierra Leone Premier League.
Rodney Michael said the club needs ‘in excess of sixty million old Leones for only those two matches alone.’
He said the club was not due to receive sponsorship support until towards the end of March going to April which according to him has resulted in the club struggling to meet its commitments. Michael said his executive has made a lot of effort in the past to get the fans and patrons to help the club but noted that only one person has contributed ‘two million old Leones’.
Chairman Michael told the Blackpool faithful that ‘we are competing with clubs that are more financially stable and much more powerful with resources, they have higher revenue generation and because of that if we want to compete with them, we need your support now’.
He said eighteen months after taking over, his executive has managed to restore the credibility of Mighty Blackpool and make it a formidable competitor in the current Sierra Leone Premier League but, according to him, ‘with 40 players on contract, a technical team and costs rising by the minute, it is not easy anymore for a club to run’.
Mighty Blackpool stands second in the table, 3 points behind Bo Rangers having played an equal number of games.
