President Julius Maada Bio and the First Lady Fatima Bio last Saturday 1st April commissioned the Dr. Fatima Maada Bio Boarding Home for Girls at the Galliness Perri Secondary school, making it the first boarding home for girls in Perri Chiefdom, Pujehun District.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dickson Roger who heads the school and funded the construction of the home said naming the school after the First Lady is a deliberate move so that the girls are always inspired by her efforts to ensure a safe and free society for women and girls across the country.
"We named the boarding home Dr. Fatima Maada Bio Boarding Home for Girls, in appreciation of the relentless efforts of Her Excellency the First Lady Dr. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio in promoting, protecting and supporting women, girls, youth and children across the country," he said.
The boarding facility, according to Rogers who also serves as a parliamentary representative for constituency 100 in the district, accommodates up to 80 girls.
In response to the gesture, the First Lady expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament and described the initiative as a laudable one that will help retain more girls in school in that part of the country.
