A schoolboy is to appear in court today over the killing of his teacher in Freetown. Usual reliable sources say after weeks of investigations, Aroun Conteh has finally been charged with murder of 68-year-old Gilis Edwin Ola Johnson.
Mr. Johnson’s body was found in a pool of blood in the afternoon of Saturday 11th March 2023 at his Victoria Street, Freetown residence. Neighbors told Politico that Conteh was seen leaving the house on that day. Close family members say he attended private classes with other young people at Mr. Johnson’s residence regularly and was very close to the slain man.
According to the police, Conteh a pupil of Providence Secondary School went to the Aberdeen police station and reported the killing of his teacher which he blamed on an officer from the Operational Support Division (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police.
Hundreds turned out for the funeral of Johnson who taught for more than 40 years with members of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) putting out a statement and then wearing black clothes during the funeral to mourn their “fallen colleague’’.
A senior member of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union told Politico “We are patiently waiting for this case to come to trial and for justice to be done”.
