Sierra Leone’s main Opposition Party, the All Peoples Congress (APC) has questioned the results of the June 24th, 2023 elections announced last Tuesday by the Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed K. Konneh.

Speaking to Politico on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Sidi Yayah Tunis said the party is still engaging on its next line of action and that they will come out with a position in the shortest possible time

He said they have analyzed the results and that the foreign diplomats have spoken about what they observed in the entire process.

“As a party, we believe that there was no transparency in the tallying process and that the results announced do not reflect the votes in the various districts.  It is not even reflective of what happened at the collation centre,” he said.

He assured the public and their party supporters and members that whatever decision they will take will be in the interest of the country and democracy.

After the announcement of the results, the APC candidate in the just concluded election Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara on his verified Facebook page and Twitter accounts rejected the results, referring to the announcement as an attack on the country’s democracy.

“My compatriots we have heard the unfortunate announcement of the elections results for the June 24 Presidential elections by the Chief Electoral Commissioner Mr Konneh. It is a sad day for our beloved country. It is a frontal attack on our fledgling democracy,” he twitted, adding that

“These results are NOT credible and I categorically reject the outcome so announced by the electoral commission.”

The leader of the APC Party expressed gratitude to their supporters and development partners.  “I will rise above this travesty and I commit myself to continue the fight for a better Sierra Leone.”

Prior to the polls, the party executive took to task the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone over a number of electoral issues including concerns over transparency.
