Chairman of the Conference of Paramount Chiefs in the Southern Region, Prince Lappia Boima has called on the Main Opposition Leader Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson-Kamara to congratulate re-elected President Julius Maada Bio.
Bioma who is the Paramount Chief of Kakua Chiefdom in Bo District made this call on the 4th of July 2023 whilst addressing journalists on the country’s situation after the Elections. He stated that after the results were announced, he expected Dr. Kamara of the All People’s Congress (APC) and other presidential candidates would have congratulated the president.
According to the PC, polling was free and fair, and called on those that lost, to go back to the drawing board.
He stated that the APC flag bearer has worked for the country and has made his mark, and should therefore not allow politics to soil his reputation.
The PC said all political parties had enough time to campaign, as the date for the elections was announced a year before. "You can only win an election when you embrace the entire country,” PC Boima said.
He explained that in 2007 when the late Solomon E. Berewa lost the Presidential election to former President Ernest Bai Koroma, he immediately congratulated Koroma.
PC Boima also viewed the actions of the Chairperson of the National Elections Watch (NEW) Marcella Samba Sesay as a recipe for chaos.
The chief also condemned the act of using social media to preach tribalism and appealed to Sierra Leoneans to stop using various platforms to threaten the peace of the country.
