Police at the Waterloo Division have discovered the mutilated corpse of 24-year-old Ibrahim Jagitay, a shop owner at AllenTown, East-end of Freetown at Kellie Farm, Malambay Village in Waterloo.
The corpse was found on the 29th July, 2023.
In an interview with Politico, the Media officer and spokesperson of the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alieu Jalloh noted that the deceased was found with a slit throat and multiple stab wounds on his chest and stomach. He said a broken knife and a blue-tooth musical instrument were discovered at the scene where the said corpse was found.
He added that the remains of the 24-year-old man have been conveyed to the Connaught Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination. He said they were able to know the victim after a police social media post encouraging members of the public to come forward and identify him.
ASP Jalloh also stated that photos of the deceased were also published for ease of identification by the public. Consequent upon the circulation of the social media message, Alpha Jagitay of 5 Conteh Drive, Calaba Town, East-end of Freetown visited the Waterloo Police Station and introduced himself as Uncle to the deceased.
He said together with the Waterloo Police, Alpha Jagitay identified the body at the Connaught Hospital Mortuary in Freetown as 24-year-old Ibrahim Jagitay who owns a shop at AllenTown, East of Freetown. He pointed out that before his demise; the deceased was last seen locking his shop and then picked up by a commercial motor-bike (okada) on that particular night.
The Waterloo Police media man went on to state that after the deceased family did not see him for almost two days, they reported a missing person’s matter at Calaba town police station.
Police say they have detained and are questioning Mohamed Sallieu Jagitay, a next-door neighbor and close friend of the deceased in respect of the said killing.
There has been an upsurge in crime in Waterloo in recent times. 59 year -old Kadie Hassan’s lifeless body was found under her mattress at her Bofla Community residence between Benguima Road and Fulla Town with her two ears cut off and her feet tied, with laceration all over her body.
In June, officers at the Waterloo Police Division arrested two first cousins, 20-year-old Lansana Amara and 22-year-old Musa Kamara on allegations of Sexual penetration on a 15-year old girl at Lovers Corner, Lumpa Waterloo. The girl became Pregnant two-month ago.
Also, on the 16th April, 2023, the body of Kabba Santigie Bangura, a lecturer at Fourah Bay College was found buried inside the shrine of a witch doctor at Sherbro Town in the outskirts of Waterloo after he was declared missing by the Sierra Leone Police on the 6th March, 2023.
Ibrahim Kalokoh, the supposed witch-doctor, has since admitted to the lecturer’s killing and was charged to court.
