Resident Minister calls for unity

By Prince J Musa in Kenema

The Resident Minister East Gbessay Jusu Chuckie Ngobeh has called on the people of Kenema District to be united and not undermine indigenes from the district who have been appointed to hold positions in governance.

He made this appeal on the 19th of August 2023 at a gathering held to appreciate President Julius Maada Bio for appointing persons from the district, including the appointment of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Moriba S. Koroma.

The minister addressing the gathering appealed that they speak with one voice to get President Bio to develop the district. He asked that the masses support those in positions of trust as much is expected from the Kenema district.

Ngobeh warned residents of the district to stop undermining one another because of positions, adding that if any of them is sacked, it will be a loss to their district. He explained that in the last five years, the district has had the highest numbers of appointees, but was quick to state that many lost those positions due to internal jealousy and bad politics by people from their district.

“When your brother is in position, it is a big protection and respect to you all as a district’’ the Resident Minister said. He stated that some jubilate when an indigene of the district is sacked.

The Regional Deputy Chairman of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party  (SLPP) Umaru Vandi Kondovoh commended President Bio for appointing one of them, assuring that they will support the government to ensure they succeed in developing the country.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Moriba Koroma said the use of social media to molest and undermine people in positions of trust will not bring development, and will instead demotivate the people, and won’t be good for the development of the district.

He said that the president is fulfilling his part of the political agreement with the people of Kenema by ensuring the start of road projects, improving education, enhancing women’s inclusion in governance, providing youths support, and appointing persons from Kenema among others, in order to develop the district.

Koroma called on the people to work for the country by manifesting unity, peace, and love for one another.
