A 47-year-old witch doctor named Alusine Kamara has been taken into Police custody at the Newton (4 Mile) Police Post, Waterloo Police Division after being caught burying charms in graves at the Mabron Village cemetery in the dawn hours of Sunday 5th November, 2023.
The Police said the community people described the native doctor to be notorious of such act on the outskirts of Waterloo.
According to the Media Officer and Spokesperson of the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent Alieu Jalloh, two accomplices of the witch doctor, Mohamed Kamara of Mabron Village and Abu Bakarr Kargbo of Tombo have also been detained by the police.
ASP Jalloh noted that the newly elected Village Head of Mabron Hassan Conteh, appealed to the Waterloo Police to "speedily investigate all those involved in the sorcery act" in his village. He said he has been "having sleepless nights" since elected Village Head of Mabron a week ago.
Native doctors according to reports have been at the centre of crimes in the Waterloo community. A native doctor is currently facing trial in court over the murder of Kabba Santigie Bangura, a Lecturer of Fourah Bay College who was found buried in his shrine at Sherbro Town, 4 mile, on the outskirts of Waterloo. Kabba’s corpse was discovered on the 16th April, 2023 after declared missing by the Sierra Leone Police on the 6th March, this year.
