Police in Kenema are investigating one Fomba Salieu Kanneh resident in Kenema after officers deployed at the Wanjama checkpoint arrested a Nissan Car loaded with huge quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Jamba).
The Eastern Region Police Media Officer attached to the Community Relations Department (CRD), Inspector Prince Barnard Jaygboi Kamara told Politico that they noticed a suspicious vehicle approaching their post of deployment at about midnight on the 7th February, 2024 which they promptly intercepted and later arrested Kanneh who happened to be the driver of the said vehicle.
He noted that the officers on duty uncovered a total of 11 big bags and 47 medium-sized bundles of the alleged substance “Cannabis Sativa”.
Inspector Kamara further stated that the interception leading to the seizure of the substance is proof that the police are on robust action of checking all vehicles using the roads leading to Kenema as part of their commitment to curbing drug-related crimes in the district. He also said that the relocation of the checkpoint from the previous Bandama location to Wanjama was the right decision taken by the senior management of the police, saying that Bandama had a lot of porous routes used by drug traffickers to avoid inspection by the police.
He pointed out that the Police Commissioner East, Andrew Mustapha Kamara expressed delight and commended the officers for the excellent work done, adding that, the safety and well-being of the community is their main priority as police. He urged the police to remain vigilant in the fight against peddling and its related activities.
Inspector Kamara also calls for community support to assist in the fight against drugs by reporting any suspicious behaviour or information to the authorities while imploring the officers to fully enforce the law in combating drugs and creating a safe and secure environment at all times.
