The 26th prosecution witness, Detective Inspector Mohamed Jusu at the ongoing court martial trying 27 military personnel in connection to the November 26, 2023 failed coup, has continued displaying Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage in court.
The footage showed some of the assailants, including the fourth and ninth accused persons Abu Dauda and Idrissa Kallon at the main entrance of the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
Led in by prosecutor, Joseph A.K. Sesay, the witness, displayed the footage in court on Monday 25th March 2024, showing the ninth accused, Kallon walking around the prison’s main gate with an AK-47 rifle. He was also seen directing other assailants who were in civilian clothing while firing at the gate.
The fourth accused, Dauda was seen carrying an AK-47 and a Rocket Propel Grenade (RPG).
Also in the picture at the entrance was Amadu Koita Makalo, (a former soldier who is also standing trial). He appeared to be commanding the others. It was indicated that they arrived at the prison at 8:15 on the morning of 26th November 2023.
The footage also showed the eighth accused in the court-martial, Lance Corporal Eustace Neka at the prison with an AK-47 rifle in hand.
While the majority of the attackers were fully dressed in military combat and Operational Support Division (OSD) uniforms, a division of the Sierra Leone Police, few of them had a mixture of civilian and military clothing.
Dauda, Neka, and Kallon are among 24 other accused persons indicted with conspiracy to commit mutiny, mutiny communicating with the enemy, murder, and other related offences.
