By Jenneh Braima
Minister of youth, Alimamy Kamara, has told the weekly press briefing at the Youyi Building in Freetown that his ministry will soon get a youth village with offices in all the provincial towns.
He said they would be working in consonance with the national youth commission to implement this project which was mainly created by the government to develop the potential of young people in the country.
Mr. Kamara mentioned that the money for the project was already available to help create job opportunities and that the ministry was also part of the effort to reduce teenage pregnancy.
The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) chairman, Anthony Koroma, spoke about the commission, their service delivery charter, performance contract of 2012 and the lessons learned. They also would increase employment opportunities for young people which would reduce poverty and maximize economic growth.
More resources, he said, were needed for youth development and the curriculum of training institutions should be reviewed to target job market demands.
Minister of information and communications, Alpha Kanu, said that the agenda for prosperity would be launched second week in June.
On the issue of the Freedom of Information Bill, the minister said that they were working hard to pass it into law.
He said the electrification of private homes in Bumbuna was not government’s obligation. He said at present the people of Bumbuna were enjoying electricity and later government would construct secondary schools, a health center and water supply system.
