The national team Leone Stars left Freetown yesterday, Wednesday 12 June for Cape Verde to honour their fixture in the World Cup Qualifying series Group B with little hope, after a disappointing 2-2 draw at home against Tunisia last weekend.
Three key players are technically out. Goalkeeper Ibrahim Tarawally aka. Banjul has been dropped from the squad. Sheriff Suma picked up another yellow card last weekend while Kei Kamara and Ibrahim Tetteh Bangura are nursing injuries.
The Stars are trailing the Tunisians by five points, a result that leaves them with little hope of reaching their first ever World Cup final.
Leone Stars struggled to get a formidable replacement for Christian Caulker who failed to show up for the Tunisia encounter, forcing the team to travel with one goalkeeper Habib Sesay. Two professional goalkeepers John Trye and Songbor Bangura are expected to join the team.
