Central Parade’s James Bangura forced a win against East End Lions, after a brilliant counter attack. His 18-yard box shot was too hot for goalkeeper Mohamed Jalloh (aka Sheik Sheik) to handle as he allowed the ball to slip through his hands before Bangura came on again to drill home at the far post.
Parade took a surprise lead in the 69th minute after more calamitous defending from the Killers. Lions could have equalized or even won the match but were denied several times by the fine saves from goalkeeper Ibrahim S. Bangura (aka Stop Pain).
But it was a dreadful display by the Lions Captain Dauda Kanu (aka Boateng) and his team-mates as the shambolic defending cost them to draw their last match against 10-man Ports last week came back to haunt them in the 69th minute.
Assistant Coach Abdulai Kaloga lashed out at his boys for their “miserable performance” against Parade. He said “the players are always showing lack of commitment, things are getting worse by the day, so much inconsistency in our games and I am not sure we are going forward”.
There was the abject nature of Lions defending and the absence of a plan designed to stop Parade from doing to them what they did away to the Gem Stars in Tongo. As goalkeeper Jalloh said, “if the intention was to prevent them hitting Lions on the counter then we failed fairly miserably”.
Parade Coach Bobson Sesay bragged thus: “My boys assured me of victory and here it is”. He said his team was well prepared and confident of winning the match. He however admitted that Lions are not an easy side, stressing that they could count on some of their quality players to earn them victory.
On Friday, Kamboi Eagles defeated FC Kallon 2-0 in Kenema. And in Freetown Bo Rangers got their first away win defeating Mighty Blackpool 1-0.
Over the weekend Wusum Stars' home record was broken by visiting FC Johansen who won 2-1 in Makeni; whilst Gem Stars of Tongo suffered another 1-0 defeat away to Old Edwardians in Freetown.
Diamond Stars are still at the apex of the league table with 18 points from 8 matches, closely followed by FC Johansen with 15 points with a game in hand. EE Lions lie in 9th place and Blackpool are deep in the bottom.
