Magistrate Komba Komanda of Court Number 2 has warned three members of the Revolutionary United Front Party standing trial in his court on allegations of house-breaking and larceny.
He said it was not welcoming to hear “RUF” being mentioned in any misunderstanding because the name “brings back bad memories” and advised the party not to do anything that would disturb the peace of the land as “we have suffered enough”.
He added: “the RUF was a key player in the war we suffered not too long ago. You must put a stop to senseless wars that don’t pay”.
The three accused RUFP members including their public relations officer, Andrew Kembay are alleged to have broken into the dwelling house of another party member, Samuel Massaquoi, on 16 June this year and made away with valuables. The house on Antana Street, Portee is coincidentally housing the head office of the RUFP.
Explaining in court, Andrew Kembay said he got instructions from the leader and the secretary general of the party to “remove all those who had turned the office into a dwelling house” from the premises “and lock up the place”.
He said that when he got there to carry out his assignment, the complainant refused to listen to him or to allow him to do so.
“At this, and with the help of the security guards, I placed a lock on the doors of all the rooms as some of the inhabitants were not around”.
The complainant felt his rights had been violated and decided to take the matter to the police alleging house breaking and larceny.
Defense lawyer, Emmanuel Teddy Koroma, applied for bail referring to the matter as one that “can be settled without coming to court”.
They were granted bail in the sum of Le 30m and two sureties with the matter adjourned to 6 August 2013.
