By Joseph Sevalie in Mattru

There were clashes yesterday in the disputed village of Nyangai in the Sogbene chiefdom in the southern Bonthe District leaving two people with serious machete wounds. Clashes were also reported in Balie and Kpetema in the same chiefdom.

It followed a long drawn out dispute between Sogbene and Bum chiefdoms with each laying claim to Nyangai. The matter was looked into by the Provincial Security Committee (PROSEC) which sent surveyors to the place and ascertained that Nyangai belonged to Sogbene.

The wounded were brought to Mattru yesterday afternnon and were adnmitted to the UBC hospital. This drew rage from the Paramount Chief and his people some of who wanted to go and avenge the attacks on their colleagues.

It took the intervention of the Acting District Officer, Saffa Kanneh who calmed down the angry people and dissuaded them from going for tit-for-tat attacks.

The police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent Francis Tengbeh said that troops had been dispatched to the disputed areas as we went to press.
