The US Chapter of the local philanthropy organisation, ‘All Works of Life’ has donated US$ 5,000 to the parent body in Freetown. Making the donation the AWOL USA Ambassador, Saidu Jabbie said that what they were doing was to give back to Sierra Leone what they could afford. Jabbie said: “We are a six-member chapter but were able to raise $5,000” for the parent body in Sierra Leone “as support to its ongoing projects in the country”. He said that they were also working on plans to expand on AWOL across America so that they could have quality membership, adding that although their chapter was only launched in May this year, they were now introducing AWOL to Sierra Leoneans in that country to understand, join up and support the initiative. AWOL Chairman, Anthony Navo told journalists that education and development would be his main priorities during the course of his leadership. He said that since he took over as chairman of the organisation he had tried all he could to ensure that he promoted education not only in Freetown but also in the provinces. Navo said that this year’s Day of the African Child was celebrated by AWOL at Gondama village in the Southern part of Sierra Leone. He said they donated not only books and other school materials but also gave out tons of iron rods, cement and bundles of zinc for the construction of a school in the same village. “About 200 bags of cement will be delivered to Gondama Village this weekend in order to fast-track the construction project” he said, adding “We want to make sure that at the reopening of schools next academic year the Gondama project will be ready”. He said that the $5,000 donation from their USA Chapter would be used to boost the organisation’s objectives and help implement more projects across the country. (C) Politico 12/09/13
