United Nations and other diplomatic sources have confirmed that a Sierra Leonean national working for UNICEF was kidnapped today at gunpoint in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. His local driver of a UN vehicle was released. He has not yet been identified nor have any reasons been given for the kidnap. But it comes amid renewed threats against Sierra Leone by the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group in Somalia for deploying troops to the horn of African nation. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has strong links in Yemen. Earlier the Germany ambassador to Yemen escaped a kidnapping attempt but her bodyguard was killed after gunmen in a vehicle opened fire at Carola Muller-Holtkemper and her bodyguard as they were leaving a supermarket in Sana'a's southern Hada district, where foreign embassies are located, AFP reports. © Politico Online 06/10/13
