Former Captain of the Sierra Leone national football team, Leone Stars was arrested and questioned for more than seven hours yesterday by police in Freetown. Mohamed Kallon was released on a Le 50 million bail bond over an incident at the Football Academy at Kingtom on Friday in which, he alleged, that the president of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Isha Johansen slapped him following an argument.
According to the media officer of FC Kallon, Alhaji Komba, Kallon was invited to the OSD headquarters in Freetown yesterday and "he went there himself only to be arrested and questioned for several hours and released on a 50 million Leone bail with his surety required to surrender his passport to the police".
Komba told Politico, "I don't have details of the allegations on which Kallon was arrested but I understand Isha told the police that Kallon physically attacked and kicked her while she slapped him in self-defence".
Lawyer for the former Inter Milan player, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, described his client's arrest as "unbelievable". He said they had filed a complaint of assault against Mrs Johansen to the police and was not sure what had happened to their own case.
"How can Kallon be a double victim?" Abdulai asked. He accused the police of not treating his client's own case seriously.
Johansen, not for the first time, would not answer our calls for her side of the story.
