Sierra Leone to face Liberia in World Cup Qualifiers

Sierra Leone has been drawn to face neighboring Liberia in the 2022 World Cup preliminary qualifiers. The first leg of the draw will be played in Monrovia on September 2nd and the return leg will later play in Freetown 10th September 2019.

The winner of the tie will then progress to the group stage of another qualifiers for team on the African continent.  Eventual winners of the final group qualifiers will then progress to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Both countries did not qualify for the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

Sierra Leone and Liberia have never qualified for the World Cup.

Last time the two West African neighbors played each other was in 2018 in a friendly match. Liberia won 1-0.

This game would be the first competitive game for Leone Stars following the lifting of a FIFA imposed ban on the country.
