A two-day refreshers’ course for provincial referees has ended at the TejanKabba Hall (Eastern Polytechnic) in Kenema. Twenty-six participants from Kono, Bo and Kenema took part in the course.
According to an instructor, David Sorie, the course was designed to capacitate the referees and improve their physical ability in officiating matches.
He warned the participants to work on their fitness which he said will be the key to officiating difficult matches.
Sorie said the participants will complete the course in the coming national playoffs scheduled to commence on the 10th February 2013 in Freetown. “We will grade them according to their performances,” he said.
He called on supporters, team officials and players to respect the laws of the game and accept the decisions of the referees. He said, “I wonder why people always point fingers at referees, especially the losers.”
He said any referee found bringing the game into disrepute will be punished.
