Team Manager of Home based Leone Stars, Alhaji Umar Bah on Monday 1st August 2022 formally handed over $10,000 to the players to honour the pledge he made to the boys for eliminating Cape Verde in the CHAN qualifiers played in Morocco last month.
Team Captain Abu Bakarr Samura and Coach Zappa received the cash equivalent of One hundred and Thirty-Five Thousand Leones (New Leone Currency) on behalf of the team. The cash presentation was done in the Freetown office of Bah who is also CEO of Sierramin Bauxite Company.
In presenting the money Bah said it was just a modest gesture from him to indicate his appreciation of the boys and to get them fully- charged for their crucial qualifying matches against Mali, so as to book a place in the CHAN tournament to be held in Algeria next January.
Captain Samura described the TM’s philanthropy as “awesome gesture” and on behalf of his colleagues assured him of their determination to make it through to Algeria.
CHAN sponsored by TotalEnergies and organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is a tournament geared towards helping improve players of local leagues across Africa. It is also aimed at exposing them to a wider overseas audience. The defending champions are Morroco.
