The AC Milan Foundation is set to open a chapter in Sierra Leone.

The European football giant made this revelation to Sierra Leonean midfielder and former Milan player, Rodney Strasser during the celebration of the club’s 122 years of existence.

The 7-time European Champions also made a donation of football items to underprivileged children in Sierra Leone through the Rodney Strasser Foundation and promised to do more.

“Thanks to AC Milan and Milan Foundation for the invitation and donation,” as  Strasser took to social media shortly after the donation  to express his delight.

The Milan Foundation, which was established in 2003, has been offering services and help to disabled and other minorities across the globe.

Strasser, who joined the Serie A outfit in 2007, was part of Milan’s squad that won their 18th Scudetto in the 2010-11 season with 82 points, ahead of in-form city rivals Internazionale (Inter Milan) in second position with 76 points.

The 31-year-old midfielder is best known by die-hard Rossoneri fans for his strike that helped the team beat Cagliari on the 6th January 2011 by a goal to nil in a crucial match that set the pace for the club to win the Serie A title that year.

The holding midfielder, although now playing for Finnish side Turun Palloseura after being side-lined intermittently with an ankle injury, is still believed to maintain close ties with San Siro.

Strasser, who has made 13 appearances for the Sierra Leone National team, is set to play against Algerian defensive midfielder Ismael Bennacer and Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie in next month’s African Cup of Nations (AfCON) in Cameroon.

Sierra Leone is lined up in Group E together with defending champions, Algeria, the Elephants of Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea, after finishing second to Nigeria in Group L of the AfCON Qualifiers.

The veteran midfielder was included in the provisional list released by Leone Star’s Head Coach, John Keister.
