For attacking a referee, COFA may ban Susan's Bay

By Kemoh Sesay

The chairman of the Central One Football Association, COFA, Sama Sesay has told Politico that a committee will be set up soon to investigate an incident in which supporters of Susan's Bay community physically attacked a referee during a league match at Parade Grounds. He said the committee will study the referee's match report.

The incident took place during a COFA inter-area league match between Susan's Bay and their arch-rival Kroobay. Supporters of Susan's Bay thought they deserved a penalty but the referee awarded a free kick instead. After that decision, Ibrahim Barrie of Kroobay scored in the 85th minute to give his side important three points to earn them a place in the next stage of the competition.

Susan’s bay fought hard but failed to get an equalizer. After the match supporters of Susan’s Bay attacked the referee and pelted stones at security personnel who tried to restore order. Even other match officials and journalists were pelted with stones.

Meanwhile a similar incident in which supporters of Dove Cut invaded the pitch and attacked a match referee led to their expulsion from the league.
