Big task for Shooting Stars in Conakry

By Kemoh Sesay

The national Under - 20 football team, Shooting Stars face a daunting task against their Guinean counterparts away in Conakry despite defeating the Guineans at home last weekend in the first leg of the African Youth championship preliminary stages. The only goal was scored by Sorie Barrie in the 28th minute of the first half at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni.

The Head coach of Shooting stars Alimamy Turay aka Kay-foot  praised his players "for a very good display and for getting a goal in the first leg as any scoring draw in Guinea will take us into the next stage". Turay said, "we have the advantage approaching the second leg in Conakry" noting that it wouldn't be an easy task for his team to eliminate Guinea on their own ground.

The coach said "we have the players to eliminate Guinea and I'm sure we can do it".

According to the head coach of the Guinea team Mamadou Demba, his "boys played well as they were able to hold Shooting Stars from scoring many goals against us." He said "I am sure we will qualify in Conakry as our approach will be a different one".

He pointed out that his present squad emerged from the Under 17 squad, taking part in different youth tournaments in Africa and praised his opponents "for a good display as we both have squads with good potentials.
