The newly appointed Leone Stars Team B Head Coach Francis ‘Zappa’ Koroma has invited 50 players for training ahead of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament for home based footballers. Sierra Leone will play Cape Verde in July in the qualifying stage, for a tourney that will be hosted by Algeria.
Coach Zappa has invited players from reigning champions Bo Rangers, runners up East End Lions and FC Johansen.
However, there are controversies surrounding those players who have been invited by both teams A and B as to how the two coaches will utilize them owing to the fact that the two qualifiers will be played closely.
Sierra Leone is grouped in the Western Zone A together with Liberia, Senegal, Cape Verde, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
If Sierra Leone sails through, they will face Mali in the second and final round of the qualifiers with the overall winner of the double-tie to book a ticket to the tournament’s final that will be contested by 18 Nations in Algeria in January and February next year.
Algeria has already qualified as host nation. Libya and Morocco have automatically qualified in the Northern Zone as they were the only teams from that location.
